Babies: Powerful Cultural/Linguistic Magnets

Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PMEastern Standard Time UTC -05:00

    VIRTUAL EVENT

Understanding how babies develop language and culture is a core skill in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Most of the information surrounding this skill is focused on native speakers of Standardized American English only. However, the racial, ethnic, linguistic and dialectal diversity in the United States is rich. In this session we will learn about how infants and toddlers of all walks of life are magnets for developing as many cultures, languages and dialects you put in front of them. The knowledge and skill about how babies develop communication will help us understand...

    A) How to create a language-rich environment around infants and toddlers.

    B) Identify those who are at risk for communication impairment especially if we work with little ones.

Participants will be informed about STEM related NSF research opportunities in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Linguistics.  We are looking forward to having you and your fellow classmates listen in on these important topics as well as interact with our faculty and staff!
